An attorney from Mississippi, Tom was the Navigator, and often acted as  the ship's chaplain. Tall and lanky, with a ready smile, his drawling voice inspired confidence and trust. Outraged by the attack on Pearl Harbor, Tom joined the Navy on Dec 8, 1941.

“It was my privilege to know Lt. Wallace well, having stood untold underway watches with him. I also typed a great many underway logs for him. I was on the bridge (on watch) at the time he learned of his brother’s demise on another navy vessel. Tom Wallace was a truly fine human being.” –W. Fowers
