Jeffrey J. HaubrichWater Tender First Class"I was the Water Tender 1/c in charge of the #2 (aft) fire room. We were put out of commission when the #2 engine room was hit, we went topside and fought fires. After we returned to the Brooklyn Navy Yard I was the P.O. of the watch when the war was over, there sure was a lot of noise. I just about pulled out my .45 and let off a round or two like some others were doing. Sure glad I didn't as I may still be in the brig. I was then sent to the LC 92 Little Rock where I made Chief and was discharged in December 1946. Here is a photo of me in 1944 the day I married my wife of some 57 years." -- J.J. Haubrich |
