James CornuttSonarman Second ClassAlthough I do not have any specific information on Jim, this writer recalls vividly a conversation he had with her over 30 years ago at a Reunion in Florida. He spoke simply and earnestly of crawling through the darkened ship-- which was still in danger of sinking-- searching for wounded shipmates. He spoke honestly of his fear, and minimized his own bravery, but to this writer, James Cornutt represents all the best qualities of an American hero. -- Beverly Cook |
