Elmer Cooper

Water Tender Second Class

" 'Coop' entered the Navy in September 1941 and was discharged September 1947, re-enlisted and served until September 1962, and was paid off as a chief boiler technician.  He served on more ships than any sailor I ever knew.  Not including land stations and advanced naval bases according to documents Coop sent me, here are some of the ships he served on in addition to the Aaron WardBattleship Nevada, the ill-fated cruiser Northhampton, torpedoed and sank near the end of the war with a terrible loss of life, troop ship Hays and destroyers Manley, Misspillion, Marsh, Fletcher, Collett, Mullany, Cogswell, and  Cassiopeia.
