John BarbieriLieutenant jg Medical OfficerNavy Cross Jack was the ship's doctor. His foresight probably saved many lives that night. He had managed to persuade many yard workers to donate blood while the AARON WARD was being fitted out. As a result, he had between 250 and 300 units of plasma stored aboard ship, mainly in the ice-cream machine. That plasma made the difference between life and death for the wounded. Jack earned the Navy Cross. |
